Survivors include his wife Ida, four sons, John Radunz, Ocheyedan, IA; Henry Radunz, Cottonwood, MN; Emil Radunz, Granite Falls, MN; Otto Radunz, Louisville, KY; four daughters, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Krueger, Redwood Falls, MN; Mrs. Arthur (Lillian) Olson, Cottonwood, MN; Mrs. Arthur (Selma) Werner, Redwood Falls, MN; and Mrs. Harry (Violet) Hinmers, Portland, OR. There are three sisters living in St.Paul and a brother in Germany. One infant daughter preceded him in death. Mr. Radunz lived first at Gibbon, MN., and then Granite Falls before moving to Wood Lake. He spent his last five years with a daughter in Cottonwood. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church. Pallbearers were Howard Radunz, Douglas Olson, Donald Krueger, Dean Werner, Arthur Olson Jr. and Curtis Krueger. The Rev. Norval Kock officiated and burial was made in the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery at Granite Falls with the Hamre service in charge. Emil left Germany from Antwerp, Belgium, and sailed on the ship S.S. Philadelphia and landed in the port of Philadelphia on the 10 of March 1893. His father came before him. He married Ida Redmann in Gibbon, MN. in 1903. They farmed a very short time at Gibbon, MN. before moving to Granite Falls to farm. They purchased 160 acres in Wood Lake Township, SE 1/4 of Sec.17. Here they resided and raised their family until retiring. Emil applied for citizenship in 1918, when he was 43 years old, but for some unknown reason he did not become a citizen until 1941, when he was 66 years old. |

Interment was in Ocheyedan township Cemetery, Ocheyedan, with Jurrens Funeral Home, Sibley, in charge of arrangements. Howard died November 10, 2007. Military honors were conducted by the Osceola County American Legion and VFW. Howard Radunz was born June 11, 1931, on a farm southwest of Ocheyedan, the son of John and Anna (Hartwig) Radunz. Howard was baptized and confirmed in the American Lutheran Church in Melvin. He attended country school and later graduated from Ocheyedan Public School. He joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received his honorable discharge in 1954. In 1955 he married JoAnn Uden in Sioux City. Howard and JoAnn farmed for 10 years. Howard then worked for various construction companies as a heavy equipment operator. In 1985, Howard's health deteriorated and he retired. He researched his family history and was a past member of the Spencer and Sibley Historical Societies. He researched veteran names and was instrumental in constructing the Osceola Veterans Memorial Board. He also served as a clerk for the Ocheyedan and Harris townships. He worked and researched all the cemeteries in Osceola county and composed a book with his findings. He was a lifelong member of Wood-Miller Legion Post, served as adjutant for many years and also was a member of the VFW in Sibley. He served as Osceola County VA director for nine years. While director, he was vice-president of the Veterans Memorial Committee. The memorial stands now on the courthouse grounds in Sibley. He also served as Osceola patient representative for the Sioux Falls VA Hospital and was a member of St. Peter's Church in Ocheyedan. He is survived by his wife JoAnn; two sons: Douglas (Debbie) Radunz of Ocheyedan and Daniel Radunz and fiancée Darlene; one daughter, Eva Brown; four grandchildren: Carrie Goecke of Milford; Amanda Radunz of Sheldon; Wesley (Melissa) of Ocheyedan; and James Radunz of Ocheyedan; one great-grandchild, Dawson Goecke of Milford. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Mary Ann. |

He died July 12, 1991 after losing both legs from diebetes. Surviving are his son, Howard Radunz and his wife, JoAnn of Ocheyedan along with three grandchildren, Douglas Radunz and his wife, Debbie of Ocheyedan; Daniel Radunz of Moreno Valley, CA; Eva Marie Brown of Mesa, AZ; along with four great-grandchildren, Carrie Vander Burg of Spirit Lake, IA., Amanda, Wesley John, and James Radunz all of Ocheyedan. Also surviving are four sisters, Lillian, Mrs. Art Olson of Cottonwood, MN; Sally Werner and Ann Krueger both of Redwood Falls, MN; and Violet, Mrs. Harry Hinmers of Portland, OR. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Anna; daughter, Mary Ann; three brothers, Henry, Otto, and Emil and an infant sister. Interment was in Baker township Cemetery. John came from a family of nine children. He had three brothers and five sisters. One sister died when only 1 year old. He attended country school and which grade he finished is unknown. He worked for different farmers when he was growing up and worked his way to Iowa to help Hartwig's with picking corn. Here he met his wife Anna and they got married and spent the rest of his life on that farm. After retiring from the farm, he moved to Ocheyedan until he no longer could take care of himself and became a resident of Country View Manor in Sibley. John worked hard all his life. He liked to go fishing and always went back to MN where he grew up. |
