McCOOK LAKE, S.D. | James “Jim” Richard Lynott, 81, of McCook Lake went to be with the good Lord Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, with his wife, Bev, and son, Jeff, at his side after a brave seven-month battle against cancer.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with family friend, and neighbor, Sharon Harrington officiating (casual attire is welcome). Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Jim was born on July 24, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Pete and Marie (Mortensen) Lynott. He entered the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years of age, and was a veteran of the Korean conflict after giving 14 years of service to his country. Jim was honorably discharged in March 1961.

Jim met his soul-mate Bev Tucker on Aug. 19, 1976, and the two were married on Aug. 19, 1988, at Morningside Assembly of God Church. He worked in Sioux City with the Local Labors Union for many years, as well as Big Soo Terminal. Following his retirement, Jim worked in security at the Sioux City Sue, Belle of Sioux City, and the Argosy Casino.

Jim enjoyed being at home with his wife, Bev, and son, Jeff. You could always find him on the deck watching the military and history channels, Jim loved that room in his home. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, metal detecting, and traveling. Jim always had the desire to pan for gold. Jim was a kind, caring, calm gentleman and he will be greatly missed.

Left broken hearted is the love of his life, Bev; son, Jeff; sister, Catherine (Lynott) Maxwell, all of Siouxland; and a brother Paul Lynott (Cherri) of Waukesha, Wis. Additional extended family that survives Jim includes Leslie and Mary (aka Sal to Uncle Jim) Lynott, Lechelle Lynott-Shilz, Sarah and Kristen Fortman, Wes (Jess) Kincaid, Jim and Dale Anderson of International Falls, Minn; sisters-in-law, Barb Wojciechowski (Bill) of Badger, Minn., and Janet Fortman of Roseau, Minn; special nephew, Pete (Terry) Maxwell of Rapid City, S.D; special niece, Jodi Wojciechowski (who kept Uncle Jim well supplied with funny T-shirts and green note pads); Kevin Wojciechowski; and many other nephews and nieces, cousins, and many dear friends. We cannot forget his two Shih Tzus, Maggie Lyn and Lexie Louise, oh how Jim loved "his girls".

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bob Kincaid; nephew, Steve Maxwell; niece, Mary Ellen Maxwell; and niece, Dyan Wojciechowski.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice of Siouxland, who with their help made this journey less painful, and to the dynamic duo, Kristen and Kristy.
