Obituary* | Obituary: [From the Flora Journal-Record, January 18, 1923)
Mrs. Mary Emily Coil died at her home in Flora, Ill. Saturday morning, Jan., 13th, 1923, at 1:12 o'clock. Mrs. Coil had been in falling health for two years from which recovery was impossible. The place of her birth was Sistersvllle, W. Va., on May 22, 1863. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Blackburn, have preceded her to the Great Beyond. She became the wife of J. L. Coil of this city, on December 8, 1880. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a good neighbor, not only kind and thoughtful, but charitable in word and deed. Besides the husband she leaves three children—Mrs. Lola Chandler, of Pueblo, Colo., Ed C. Coil, of this city, and Mrs. Edith Irene Reffner of Lansing, Mich., ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her death is also mourned by three sisters, and one brother; Mrs. Sallie Harrell, Mrs. Anna Anderson, Miss Ida Blackburn and Charles E. Blackburn, all of this city and an aged aunt on her mother's side, Mrs. Elizabeth Stanford, of Stanford township, two sons-in-law, one daughter-ln-law besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. Her neighbors loved her and will miss her. Blessed are those who keep the faith. Mrs. Mary Coil professed faith in Christ and united with the First Methodist Episcopal church In young womanhood and was an attendant of same until failing health debarred her from that privilege. She was only permitted to attend services a few times in the new church building. The last evangelistic service she attended was under the leadership of Rev. Martin and she was In entire accord with the views expressed that Christians should stand out from the world In their faith. She was a member of the ladles' aid society and the Frances Willard Bible Class. Since she has been a shut-in she and her husband have been members of the Home Department of the Sunday School. She was strong in her faith and died In the same. She knew death was near and set her earthly house in order for her going. She was a charter member of Margaret Morrlssey Lodge No. 435, Ladles' Auxiliary to B. of R. T., in which she was held in high esteem. Through years of affliction she has been a patient sufferer, trusting to her heavenly guide. Loving hands and tender care had done all that was possible, the angel came in and relieved her of her suffering. The children and their father were all permitted to be with her at the last. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Flora Methodist Episcopal church, the minister. Rev. W. I. Terhune officiating. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery. The members of the Ladies Auxiliary gave their ritualistic burial service at the cemetery. Those from out-of-town attending the obsequies were:—Walter R. Coil of Edwardsville; Mrs. Thomas Rogers of lola. |
