Obituary | 15 February 2009 | Obituary: The obituary for Lula was recorded on 15 February 2009. Lula Mae Zimmerman Woodward went home to be with her Lord Jesus, Feb. 11, 2009, at Streamside Assisted Living Center in Nampa, Idaho. She died of causes incident to age and congestive heart failure. She was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Wymore, Neb., and later attended school in Beatrice, Neb., to become a nurse's aide. She married Donald LeRoy Woodward on June 30, 1935, at the home of her parents near Wymore. Prior to their moving to Nampa in 1949, Lula worked for the Beatrice State Home. Don was an accomplished welder, quickly finding employment in Nampa and worked mostly for Idaho Concrete Pipe Company from 1957 until his retirement in 1980. Don preceded Lula in death in December of 1981. Lula was an excellent homemaker and cook, and a talented seamstress. She made most of her own clothes and would purchase the perfect hat and perfect pieces of jewelry to complete her ensemble. Being properly dressed and looking nice was something she achieved even at the age of 95 at her great niece's wedding last September. Lula enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. Her place was a rainbow of beautiful blossoms and shrubs every summer. She enjoyed playing her piano and singing with family. She had a keen mind and could remember events and situations that most of us had long forgotten. Lula was a charter member of the Lutheran Brethren Church and enjoyed the many friendships she had there. Although Lula and Don were not blessed with children of their own, they enjoyed the children of their sisters and brothers. Survivors include her sister, Emily Saathoff of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and her brother, Arnold (Lorene) Zimmerman of Beatrice; 10 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mona; her husband, Don; her brother, Leslie; and her sister, Alma. The family wishes to thank the staff at Streamside Assisted Living; Life's Door Hospice; and special friends, Thelma and Jack Hanson, for their loving care and concern.2 |

She and her husband, Andrew, farmed near Oketo, Kansas until 1980 when they retired and moved to Beatrice, Nebraska. Andrew died on August 19, 1996.
