MemoWilliam Moffett a 20 year old Scotsman landed at St. Marys Maryland in 1649 and shortly thereafter settled in Calvert Co. MD. He became a tobacco planter in Calvert Co. where he was later the colonial agent and attorney for a London importer and merchant, Richard Allen.
In 1672, the estate of Mr. Hemmings named Williiam Moffett as guardian for his son, Bartholomew, who died shortly thereafter at the age of 12; it is believed that this Mr. Hemmings was the brother of William Moffett's wife, Elizabeth.
After death William's personal estate was valued at 7650 pounds tobacco, and included three cows, three two year old horses, four yearlings, three tables, three charirs, one pair of andirons and a spit. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth, who may have removed to Cecil Co. MD with her three sons after William's death.4
