Samuel Cornelius was born 28 May 1761 in Baltimore Co., MD--He was listed as a 'Single Freeeman' in Dublin T/S, Bedford Co., PA in 1784, when he would have been 23 years old. In 1788, still as a 'Single Freeman', he has a farm of 150 acres , two horses and two cattle, paying a tax of 13.4 pounds. In 1789 he paid taxes on 133 acres (improved Land), two horses, and one cow. In 1790 census for Huntingdon Co. PA he had married Nancy in 1788 immediately after the tax assessment. The year 1790 was the last time he paid taxes in Shirley T/S. By 1790, he was married with 2 children living in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania on the census record. He next appears in the 1800 census in SpringfieldT/S, Hutingdon Co., PA with a wife and five children, one son and four daughters. Some of John's descendants moved into Illinois from Pennsylvania.¹
