Will of Daniel Cornelius Kent County, Maryland 1793 Transcribed by Sherry Cornelius 23 September 2000 In the name of God, amen. I, DANIEL CORNELIUS of Kent County, in the State of Maryland, being in a good state of health and of sound and disposing mind and memory, considering the uncertainty of my death and the shortness of life, desiring to settle my worldly business and thereby be the better prepared to greet time, it shall please God to call me, do therefore make and publish this my Last Will and Testament tin manner and form as follows. Viz. First and principally, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors, hereinafter named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise the bequeath as follows: Item. I give and bequeath unto the children of GEORGE CORNELIUS, one hundred and fifty pounds to be equally divided between them. Item. I give and bequeath to MALICENT CORNELIUS, two hundred pounds, and my will is that the above bequests be paid out of my estate after the death of my wife hereinafter named. Item. I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife, ROSAMOND CORNELIUS, all the market money that she has acquired since we have been married, suppose and about two hundred pounds. Item. My will and desire is that the following Negroes, to wit. Dick, Jim, Big Bill, Little Bill, are to be hired out, having a choice of their masters and the money arising to be carried into my estate. Item. I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife ROSAMOND CORNELIUS, one third of my whole estate to be disposed of as she may chose and to have the profits of the remaining two thirds during her natural life, provided she gives security for its being paid over at their death to brothers and sisters or their representatives to whom I will, the said two thirds of my estate aforesaid, share, share alike. Item. I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife ROSAMOND during her natural life, the foregoing Negroes to wit, Monday, Jenny, Phil, Rachel, and Hannah. My desire is that Rachel be free at her mistress' death.
