Carl Friedrick Wassman was born on August 17, 1910, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He was the son of Herman and Catharina (Behrens) Wassman. He lived his youth in rural Ocheyedan and attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School for eight years.
He was united in marriage to Clara Lutterman of Ocheyedan, Iowa, on March 19, 1932, in Brandt, South Dakota. They lived and farmed east of Ocheyedan on the family farm. In 1944, they moved one mile west of the home place where they farmed and continued to live. In 1975, they retired. Carl and Clara moved to the Country View Manor in 2004.
Carl was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, where he was active when he was able. Church always came first.
Carl and Clara enjoyed working together and keeping busy. They made quilts and gave them to the church and World Relief. They also enjoyed gardening and sharing the produce with the community. Carl continued gardening until he was 94.
He passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2006, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Clara Wassman of Sibley, IA; two sons and daughters-in-law: Lorne and Maxine Wassman of Ocheyedan, IA, Darwin and Nan Wassman of Ogallala, NE; one daughter and son-in-law: Marilyn and Dennis Gregerson of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Edwin (in his youth), Arthur and Harry; four sisters: Elsie, Amollie, Hilda and Olga.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. Rev. Russell Anderson officiating.

Burial in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan.

Visitation will be Monday, March 12, 2007, from 1:00 to 7:30 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.

Clara Wassman was born on April 25, 1912, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Jacobs) Lutterman. She lived in various places in Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa. She attended school by Brandt, South Dakota.
She was united in marriage to Carl Fredrick Wassman of Ocheyedan, Iowa, on March 19, 1932, in Brandt, South Dakota. They lived and farmed east of Ocheyedan, on the family farm. In 1944, they moved one mile west of the home place, where they farmed and continued to live. In 1975, they retired. Carl and Clara moved to the Country View Manor in 2004. Carl passed away on September 7, 2006.
Clara was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan.
She enjoyed canning garden produce, sewing, mending, and quilting. She made up to 200 handmade quilts. She also enjoyed making homemade soap.
Clara passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Those left to cherish her memories are two sons and daughters-in-law: Lorne and Maxine Wassman of Ocheyedan, IA, Darwin and Nan Wassman of Ogallala, NE; one daughter and son-in-law: Marilyn and Dennis Gregerson of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl; her parents; two brothers and two sisters.

Wassman, Lucille E. Dr. 87 years old, of Newberry, died 9/6/2007 at Springfield Place. Dr. Wassman was born on Feb. 22, 1920, in Cedar Lake, Ind., a daughter of the late Fred and Emma Behrens Wassman. She was survived by four nieces, Clairice “Maggie” Segert of St. John, Ind., Marcella Reichert of Lowell, Ind., Rosemary Hesemann of Moscow Mill, Mo. and Ruth Stege of Varna, Ill.; and three nephews, Rodger Teske of Beecher, Ill., Clifford Bernhard of Crown Point, Ind. and Albert Seehausen of Grand Island, Fla. She was predeceased by six sisters, Lillian Bernhard, Linda Junge, Helen Seehausen, Margaret Seehausen, Mary Grieving and Clara Teske Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Ind. Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry is assisting the family.2

She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education at Indiana University and her Ed.D in education from Columbia University. She taught in elementary schools in Indiana and Illinois; was an instructor at the National College of Education in Evanston, Ill.; assistant professor of education at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; the executive director of the LDA; associate professor of education at Birmingham Southern College and associate professor of education at Newberry College.3
