Survived by brother, Thomas, son, Kristopher (Jamie), grandchildren, Christopher and Abigail, nieces, Pamela, Colleen, Melissa, Allison, nephews, Robert, Michael and Ronald. Loving Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend. Peggy was a source of strength and wisdom for everyone that knew her. A fighter and survivor, her strong faith fueled her resiliency and perseverance. She always kept a positive attitude despite any adversity she faced. Her legacy lives on in the many people she helped to get and stay sober during her own 36 years of sobriety. She will be missed and hold a place in our hearts forever. Obituary | February 2002 | Obituary: The obituary for Marie was recorded in February 2002. Marie Anna Piepho died at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn. on Feb. 15. She had been ill for several months. Marie was born Nov. 5, 1913 in Trempealeau and was the third of six children born to Richard John and Anna (Schiller) Koch. Her father immigrated to the United States from Germany in the 19th Century and in 1898 served with the U. S. Navy in the Spanish-American War. In addition to Trempealeau, while the children were young, the Koch family resided in several areas of the U. S., including Perth Amboy, N.J.; Kearney, Neb.; St. Petersburg, Fla.; Fergus Falls, Minn.; and the Roberts-Hammond area where Mr. Koch farmed and operated a hemp mill. Marie attended a country school in the Town of Hammond. On Sept. 9, 1939, in Minneapolis, Marie married Donald Piepho, who had worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later was employed by Honeywell. During the early years of their marriage they lived in Robbinsdale. They then moved to North Minneapolis where they resided for over 50 years. Marie and Don became the parents of three children: James, Margaret and Richard. Marie was a member of St. Austin's Catholic Community in Minneapolis. She was very proud of her family and served delicious home-prepared food to them and friends. She was involved in politics and had an extensive collection of post cards which had been mailed to her over the years by friends who traveled in all parts of the world. She truly enjoyed ballroom dancing and card playing. She and Don always attended the reunions of Don's World War II Navy Unit. Marie is survived by her son, Richard (Karen) Piepho of Brooklyn Park, Minn; grandchildren, Robert Hilger of Camarillo, Calif., Mike Hilger of Park City, Utah, Patrick Hilger of Circle Pines, Minn., Rebecca St. Martin of Minneapolis and Daniel Piepho of Brooklyn Park; six great-grandchildren; brother Ted (Joan) Koch of Shinkleton, Calif.; son-in-law Don Hilger of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law, Mary Johnson Koch of Baldwin and Marie Koch of Strafford, Mo.; nieces in the local area, Mary Anna (Koch) Forsythe of Roberts, Jean (Koch) Lindus of Hammond; and many other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Donald Piepho; two children, James Piepho and Margaret Hilger; daughter-in-law Linda Piepho; her parents, Richard John and Anna Koch; and four brothers, Edward, Richard C., Bert and Fred Koch. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Du Schane Chapel of the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home in Robbinsdale, with Father Gregory Welch of St. Austin's Church officiating. A eulogy was given by Robert Hilger. Interment was in Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope, Minn. Casketbearers were Robert Hilger, Patrick Hilger, Michael Hilger, Rebecca St. Martin, Carl Golob and Daniel Piepho.1 |
