ObituaryApril 1920Obituary: The obituary for Jacob was recorded in April 1920. The departed brother, Jacob Lottman, was born Nov. 6th, 1840, in Norden, Ostfriesland, Germany. He attended the public school of his birthplace until the age of 15 years, when he became a communicant member of the Evangelical Lutheran church by the solemn rite of confirmation.
In the year 1871 the deceased immigrated to this country making his home first at Pittsburg, Pa, and after a period of nine years moved westward, settling on a farm two miles west of Diller, where he remained until 1903 when he retired from active farming and made his home in the city of Diller.
In the year 1868 the departed brother was united in holy matrimony to Miss Violine Franzen, which union was blessed with nine children, namely, two sons and seven daughters.
His wife having died Nov 2nd, 1885, the deceased was in 1888 united in wedlock to Miss Anna Benders and this second union was blessed with two children, one son and one daughter.
His second wife died in 1901 and in 1908 departed brother united in marriage with Mrs Marie Weerts.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and four daughters of this union; he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Lottman, six children, fou step-children, forty-three grand-children and eight great-grand-children.
The names of the bereft children are: Mrs. E C Aden, Milbank, SD; Mr Onke Lottman, Mr John Lottman, Mrs Henry Ahrends, Mrs Lena Weerts, Diller, NE and Mrs Henry Elgert, Reynolds, NE.
The departed brother had been in failing health for a long time, yet was able to be up and doing chored around the house. Only a few months ago his health failed him rapidly until on Tuesday morning, April 13th, shortly before 10 o'clock, the Lord over life and death summoned our brother from this life of sorrow unto the great beyond. The cause of his demise was kidney trouble that had developed into bright's disease.
The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at one o'clock from the house and 2 o'clock at the Lutheran church of which the deceased had been a devoted member. Rev J A Hansen pastor of the local church, was assisted in conducting the last rites by the Rev Otto Bergfeider.
The large attendance and the beautiful flowers attested the esteem in which the departed brother was held. Interment was made in the cemetery north of Diller.
He reached an age of 79 years, 6 months and 7 days. He is gone, but not forgotten. May he rest in peace.1
