Kathleen Elizabeth (Birkinbine) Powers, age 63, was welcomed into her Savior's arms at home in Springfield, Missouri, on January 5, 2013. She was born the daughter of Rev. Kenneth and Blanche (Stewart) Birkinbine on February 1, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a 1967 graduate from Des Moines Technical High School. Kathleen was the Iowa District's first Missionettes Honor Star. She went on to attend Central Bible College, where she earned her B.A. degree.

On August 13, 1971, Kathleen was united in marriage to Rev. Jimmy L. Powers in Des Moines. Together they pastored congregations in Clarion, Iowa; Hamilton, Ohio; Woodward, Iowa; and Mt. Ayr, Iowa. In 1984, they began to pursue the calling that the Lord had placed in their hearts: They served as Assemblies of God Missionaries in the South American country of Paraguay. They served the children of Paraguay through the ministry of Latin America Child Care and continued to serve through the ministries of Latin America Theological Seminary and Latin America Caribbean Library Services. After moving from Paraguay to Springfield, Kathleen was employed at Assemblies of God World Missions, where she continued to share her passion for missions by assisting newly appointed missionaries.

Kathleen attended Evangel Temple Christian Center in Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Rev. Jimmy Powers; daughter, Rebecca (John) Uccello of Springfield; son, Nathanael (Emily) Powers of Libertyville, Illinois; grandchildren, John Robert Uccello and Izabella Marie Uccello; and mother, Blanche Birkinbine.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2012, in Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Wednesday, January 9, also in the funeral home with burial to follow in Maple Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Latin America Caribbean Library Services, Assemblies of God World Missions, 3728 W. Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, Missouri, 65802.2
