| Obituary | Dec 2020 | Obituary: The obituary for Cheryl was recorded on Dec 2020. Harris, IA Cheryl Dake age 67 of Harris, IA died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at her son’s home in rural Sibley, IA. A private family memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in Harris, with Pastor Emmanuel T. Naweji officiating. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks will be required. Burial will follow at the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery of Ocheyedan, IA. Public visitation will be Wednesday, December 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home Andringa Chapel in Ocheyedan, IA. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and family will not be present. Cheryl Ann Dake was born to Lota and Hilda (Heida) Rieck on May 17, 1953 in Sibley, IA. She was the fiery redheaded sister to Marian, Ronnie, Kenny. Cheryl grew up in rural Melvin, IA where she helped her family farm. She attended school there and later graduated from Melvin High School. On November 18, 1977, she was united in marriage to Duane Dake in Melvin, IA. To this union two children were born, Dustin and Derrick. The couple made their home north of Ocheyedan, IA. They raised cattle, farmed some land, and had dairy cows for a number of years. In her down time, Cheryl made a career for herself working full time on the line at the local bag factory, most recently known as Hood Packaging. The couple later divorced. 2003 brought much joy when this mother of 2 boys got promoted and became the grandmother of 2 girls when Autumn joined the family in January and Hadley in September. The years following, she spent much of her time in their company, visiting and playing with them, doing nearly anything they asked and spoiling them in all things “girl”. In 2007 she shared in the loss of her granddaughter Ella. In 2009 she added 2 more grandkids to the bunch, Dalton in January and Mariah in May and rounding out her tribe in 2012 was Treyton. Grandma was her favorite title - that was obvious. She dabbled in a variety of activities because of her little people, like Lego building, the occasional Wii challenges, shopping sprees, and becoming “regulars” at Subway and Arbys. Among these things, she was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Harris, IA, a loving sister and aunt and a ride or die type of friend! Left behind to cherish her memory are her two sons and their families, Dustin (Shantry) Dake and their children, Autumn, Mariah and Treyton all of Sibley, IA; and Derrick Dake of Arco, MN and his children, Hadley Dake of Inwood, IA and Dalton Dake of Sibley, IA; one sister, Marian Roskens of Avoca, IA; other extended family and countless friends, who will forever remember her smiling face and bright red hair. She was greeted by those who had gone before her including her parents, Lota and Hilda Rieck; four brothers, Ronald “Ronnie”, Kenton “Kenny”, Dennis and Brian Rieck; and granddaughter, Ella Dake.2 |

| Obituary | 3 May 2010 | Obituary: The obituary for Jeffrey was recorded in Chattanooga, Hamilton, Tennessee, United States on 3 May 2010. [from Chattanooga Times Free Press - (May/3/2010)] Jeffrey Rinkel Jeffrey Lynn Rinkel, 52, of Hixson, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at his home from an accidental fall. Jeffrey was born Aug. 20, 1957, in Harlan, Iowa, to Rev. Charles T. Rinkel Jr. and Nelda Watkins Rinkel. As a self-proclaimed rebellious preachers son, Jeffrey lived in New Sharon, Des Moines, Spencer and Ottumwa, Iowa. In his youth he developed a passion for bicycling and often participated in touring with his best friend, the Rev. Jonathan Gaul, on Iowa farm roads and in the Des Moines Registers annual bike ride (RAGBRAI). Jeffrey (a 1975 graduate of Ottumwa High School) earned both his bachelors and master of arts degrees from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. During his undergraduate years he received a scholarship for his creative talents in costuming. He continued to pursue his education by working on doctoral studies at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Jeff received teaching degrees in the fields of theater, public speaking and English. On May 26, 1984, he married Vanessa Vaal in Ottumwa. They resided in Cedar Falls, where Jeffrey was a middle school teacher at Price Laboratory School and director of the theater department from 1981-85. The couple moved to Houston, Texas, in 1985, where Jeffrey taught middle and high school acting and theater arts in Klein Independent School District for two years. Teaching as adjunct professor at Houston Community College sparked his love for teaching public speaking and theater arts at the college level. He began working at Prairie View A&M University, a historically Black college, in Prairie View, Texas, in 1987. He continued there until 1992 as associate professor of speech and coach of the speech team. From 1992-1995 Jeffrey took the opportunity to teach at West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, W.Va., and also began his doctoral studies in Communications at Ohio University. Jeffrey was an associate professor at Chattanooga State from 1996 until the time of his death. During his tenure at Chattanooga State he taught public speaking, nonverbal communication and introduction to the theater and coached the speech team. Jeffrey was passionate about theater and enjoyed teaching others the art of public speaking. Jeffreys hobbies and interests included bicycling, tinkering on cars especially his 1963 Cadillac restoration of historic homes, listening to classical music and the theater arts. He enjoyed sewing and shared his gift by making costumes and articles of clothing for his wife and children. Jeffrey was a gentle and peace loving man with a huge heart. He had the greatest respect for others from all walks of life. He was energetic and had a passion for life. His greatest love was his family, especially his two teenage children, Mariah and Jon. Jeffrey was a member and lay eucharistic minister at St. Peters Episcopal Church, where his family will celebrate his life with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Vanessa Vaal Rinkel; and their two children, Mariah Gabrielle Rinkel and Jonathan David Rinkel, of Hixson. Additional survivors include his parents, Charles T. Rinkel Jr. and Nelda Watkins Rinkel, of Johnston, Iowa; his siblings, Pamela Rinkel (Larry) Deeds, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Timothy Rinkel, of Rochester, Minn. Funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 848 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415, with the Rev. Carter Paden III officiating. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in Chattanooga Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peters Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Book of Remembrance at St. Peters Episcopal Church. Visit www.lanefh.com to share condolences. Arrangements by Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace. O3 |
