June Mae Hartwig was born on July 24, 1936 in Sibley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry and Irene (Wietzema) Willemssen. She lived her youth in rural Sibley, where she attended a country school. When she was young she liked to trick ride on her horse. She married Emmett Hartwig of Ocheyedan, Iowa in February of 1952. They lived and farmed by Ocheyedan. They went to Las Vegas a couple of times and enjoyed dancing in Sioux Valley at the Coliseum. In 1983, they divorced. June purchased the bowling alley in Melvin. She enjoyed going to flea markets with her special friend, Maynard Hanson. She also liked to watch people, visit with her friends, play slot machines and scratch tickets. June thought the world of her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee, cards and Slap Jack with her grandchildren. She liked to cook and teach her kids to cook. Her favorite was fried chicken. She always had time for coffee and visiting. She passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at her home in Melvin. Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Judy Wolterstorff of Melvin, IA and special friend, Paul Wimmer, and her son, Joshua Wolterstorff and his son, Izik; Peggy and Llyn Sorensen of Melvin, IA and their children, Jennifer and Adam Douma and their children, Abigail, Caden, and Brady of Ashton, IA, Lucas Sorensen of Cedar Falls, IA, Brittany and Brandon Elgersma of Sanborn, IA; Dan and Kelly Hartwig of Ocheyedan, IA and their children, Amie and Steve Elser of Ocheyedan, IA and their children, Keytin and Kyler, Rachael Votrobeck and special friend, Jeff Smith, and her children, Aubrey and Cooper of Hartley, IA, Caleb Hartwig; Connie Riedemann of Ritter, IA and her son, Niel Riedemann of Des Moines, IA; Sherry Hartwig of Spirit Lake, IA. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Hartwig; her parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Ruth Willemssen.2 |
