Maxine Lee Moffett McClain

ASHLAND -- Maxine Lee Moffett McClain, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at home after a long illness.

She was born March 24, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Joshua F. and Helen Mary Carle Moffett.

She had been a resident of Ashland for most of her life. Mrs. McClain had worked in the office of F.E. Myers Co., admission office at Ashland College, and most recently worked in the office of National Latex Company, Fourth Street Plant.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashland. She was a former Sunday school teacher and a former girl scout leader. She was a member of Sarah Copus Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Ashland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, and had worked at the Genealogical Library in Ashland.

Maxine loved her two daughters and her extended family of siblings, nieces and nephews. She was an avid walker and reader, enjoyed doing family genealogy, and was very interested in religious history and Biblical archeology.

On October 10, 1942, she was married to Benjamin G. McClain, who preceded her in death on December 10, 1985. Also preceding her in death was infant son, Lawrence Benjamin McClain; her parents; and one sister and one brother.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia McClain and her husband James Grigg of Albuquerque, N.M.; Celia and Preben "Andy" Andersen of Mansfield; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ruth and Earl Anderson of Ashland, Marjorie Atterholt of Prescott, Ariz., Delphine and Bob Kinney of Ashland; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Therese Moffett of Ashland; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. at Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with the Rev. Deborah Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Ashland County TB and Respiratory Health Association, 622 Center St., Ashland 44805.4
