Bernard "Bernie" Frank Simburger, 74, of Tempe, Arizona, entered eternal rest Friday, March 5, 2004. Bernie was born May 15, 1929 in Mt. Olive, Illinois to Lawrence and Anna (Helmbold) Simburger. He attended local schools, graduating from Mt. Olive High School in 1947, moving to Tempe in 1960. Bernie attended Arizona State University, was a member of the ASU Alumni Club and an A#1 ASU fan, attending all ASU sporting activities. He was also an avid motorcycle rider. Bernie was a National Asbestos Worker for 55 years, and was a member of the Local Lodge #73, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Phoenix Police Reserves from 1963-1968 and was a member of the Scottsdale Quarterback Club. Bernie was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, and was a 55 year member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Roxie Lee (Towner) Simburger; son,. Joseph (Cheryl Ann) Simburger; daughters, Carolyn Whatley & Linda Simburger; brother, Lawrence Simburger and 4 grandchildren, Bryan & Katherine Simburger and Laura & Amy Whatley. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 9 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, with a recitation of the rosary and eulogy service at 6:30 pm at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 2121 S. Rural Rd., Tempe. Entombment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, 5005 E. Oak St., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernie's name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.3 |

Lillian E Towner, 73 of Springfield died at 10:37 pm Thursday at St John's Hospice.
She was born April 4, 1920, in Roby, the daughter of Otto E and Eveline "Eva" May Halley. She married Edward R Towner in 1969.
Mrs. Towner was a clerk for the secretary of state and was employed in the payroll department of the Springfield Police Department.
Surviving are her husband, Edward R.; a daughter, Nancy Peratt of Sherman; two stepdaughters, Vickie Lee Hill of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Susan E. Padilla of San Pedro, Calif.; a son, Edward Ludtke of Pana; a stepson, Richard E Towner of Springfield; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Marjorie Painter of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 10 am Monday at Staab Funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Mullink officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.1 |
