Pigors, 76, of Crete, passed away suddenly Friday (Sept. 16, 2011) at home. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main St., Crete, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1610 Main St., Crete, until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Crete. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Grant Park, or to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Crete. Mr. Pigors was the electrical inspector for Crete. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Dart Club and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his loving children, Julie (Gregg) Kuznieski, Teresa (Brad) Bendle, and Jeff (Joelle) Pigors. He was the cherished grandfather of Sam, Alex, Gregory, Elizabeth, Erin, Bradley, Abbigail, Claire, Logan and Rheya; and the fond brother of Gilberta (Edward) Biedzycki and Richard (Sue) Most. He is also survived by his former wife, Barbara Pigors. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael (1975).²

Memo	1188	Memo: Henry was the son of Geoffrey V, Count of Anjou and Empress Matilda. He married Eleanor of Aquitaine in 1152 and was crowned king in 1154. His children included the future kings Richard, who would later lead many battles, and John. Although he was King of England, he never learnt the English language because his family had come over from Normandy in 1066. They spoke Norman French. Henry was intelligent and well educated. He spoke Latin fluently, which was the language of educated people in Europe at that time. All documents and laws were written in Latin. Henry had an enormous impact on Law and Order. Henry was unhappy with how the law was not applied the same across England, and his changes helped to develop the common law. This was the way that laws would be applied in the same way in all towns and villages, so everyone was treated the same and with fairness. To do this, Henry made a number of changes: Created Judges who would travel the country and judge the cases of people accused of breaking the law. This meant that all crimes were judged by the King or his judges, and not by local people who might be biased or influences. Allowed judges to collect the fines from punishments of small crimes, which would be then given to the King. Created Trial by Jury. This meant that a number of local men, usually 12, would judge the case of someone accused of a crime. If they believed he was guilty, he would be punished, and if they believed he was innocent, he would be set free.¹

Memo	15 Jun 1215	Memo: As the youngest son of Henry II, John could expect no inheritance. Henry II divided his land among his sons before John was born. Later, John was expected to receive Ireland as a kingdom. Henry’s other sons strongly disagreed with this plan. When Henry died, John’s brother, Richard received all of Henry’s possessions, and John accepted Ireland as a feudal holding from Richard.[2] His family life was tumultuous, as his older brothers all became involved in rebellions against Henry. His mother, Eleanor, was imprisoned by Henry in 1173, when John was about five years old. As a young man, John already had a reputation for treachery. He conspired sometimes with and sometimes against his elder brothers, Henry, Richard and Geoffrey. In 1184, John and Richard both claimed that they were the rightful heir to Aquitaine, one of many unfriendly encounters between the two. His reign was marked by disputes between John and his barons and bishops. Because of this the nobles forced him to observe the agreement called Magna Carta, to limit his power. The Magna Carta was a significant legal document in English history, as well as the first English “bill of rights”. It introduced the idea that monarchs had limited rights and had to follow certain laws, and it gave the nobles more say in the government. It not only affected English government, but inspired governments of other countries.²
