Memo (fam)(2000)Memo: [A note from the Wassmann Family Tree on Ancestry.com]

Fred and Lina bought a home in Golva, and moved there to make their home until his death in July, 1959. Fred still continued to farm his own land until the last year before he passed away. Lina continued to live in her home in Golva, until failing health, in 1969, forced her to moved to Beach, North Dakota, to make her home. She lived in a house there with her brother, Bill, a widower from Aberdeen, South Dakota, until her death in June 1972. Fred and Lina saw many hard times during their life time on the farm, but somehow survived it all, living through the Depression Years and the Dirty Thirties. Fred and Lina both suffered from heart conditions later in life, and Fred died of a heart attack, and Lina died of internal bleeding. Their four children all attended rural grade school in Garner Township. Clara graduated from high school in Sentinel Butte; the other three never got to go to high school. Lloyd served in the Army in W.W.2. He farmed for some years, during the early years of his marriage. Then he worked as a carpenter, ran a cafe, worked for an oil company, worked for Cable T.V., and is now semi-retired. He works at the swimming pool as a maintenance man in the summer time, in Sidney, Montana, where he lives. His wife, Nina, has cooked in cafes for many years, also did some baby sitting in her home after they moved to Sidney. Their two daughters, neither one went to high school; they both married as young teenagers. Both have worked as waitresses in various cafes in Glendive, Montana, and the oldest daughter also worked at the Coca Cola Plant, and her husband and her owned and opened a tavern and pizza house for a while. Her husband now is manager of Cable T.V. in Glendive, Montana. The other daughter's husband works for an oilfield company, and they live at Watford City, North Dakota now. Their children are all in various grades in school.1

Memo (fam)(1991)Memo: [From the Ocheyedan Centennial Book, 1891-1991]
Louis Leckband, son of William and Wilhelminna Glade Leckband, was born at Adair, Iowa, in 1890. His first years were spent there and in the Exira, Iowa area until the family moved to Ocheyedan in 1903, where they farmed. The family then moved to Dayton, Oregon, in 1908, where they cleared land so they could farm it. In 1916, the family moved back to Ocheyedan, where they once again engaged in farming. In 1917, Louis married Emma Riebesehl and began farming in the Ocheyedan area. Emma was born in Webster City in 1893, moving to Horton Township with her family in 1894. Louis and Emma farmed a number of farms until 1927, when they moved to the Riebesehl homestead where they farmed until their retirement in 1955. They then moved to Worthington, Minnesota, and lived there until their deaths, Emma in 1977, and Louis in 1982. They had both resided in Lake Haven Nursing Home.
Emma was a very active farm woman who helped milk cows, helped with haying and harvest, shocked grain, raised chickens, ducks and geese, besides having a large vegetable garden, raspberry and strawberry beds, plus apple and plum orchards. She was an excellent cook and horsewoman. At the age of nine, her father sent her out to plow with the sulky and a three horse hitch.
Louis and Emma's first years of farming were very difficult because of cool, wet years with severe winters. After moving to the Riebesehl half section, they hired a man, and raised hogs and dairy cattle, and later fed cattle. They were progressive farmers, following information from Iowa State about crop rotation and balanced feed formulas, using their own grain. They were among the early farmers in the area who planted soybeans. Other crops were corn, oats, barley, alfalfa and clover.
Louis was a dedicated fisherman and later a game hunter. His trophies included moose, deer, bear, antelope, elk and caribou. His cousin, Alfred Hattendorf was often his fishing and hunting companion. As a grandfather he enjoyed taking his grandsons camping on fishing trips with them. He truly loved the outdoors and all of nature.
Louis took an active part in the community, serving on the Co-op Elevator board, as a township officer, and also in Farm Bureau. He held offices in the Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township, of which he and his family were all members.
To this union were born four children. Eunice married Reinard Wulkow and lives at Sac City, Iowa. Phyllis married Marcus Rueter (deceased). Phyllis lives at Ocheyedan. Stanley married Vivian Oleson and lives at Dewey, Arizona. James married Maureen Rehborg and lives at Worthington, Minnesota.8

Memo (fam)(1991)Memo: [From the Ocheyedan, IA Centennial (1891-1991)]
Albert Glade, son of Frederick and Dorothea Glade, was born May 22, 1886; and his wife, Matie Riebesehl Glade, was born September 19, 1890, at Webster City, Iowa. In 1894, she and her parents, Henry and Dora Riebesehl, and twin sisters, Etta and Emma, moved to a farm north of Ocheyedan.
They farmed 106 acres and later added another 80 acres, which Matie received from her parents. They milded many cows and also raised chickens, geese, and turkeys. Matie attended college, after which she taught school.
They had six children - four girls and two boys. Dorothy, the oldest, who was married to Oscar Schmid, lived on a farm near Spencer. They had four sons. After Oscar's death Dorothy married Carl Schmid. They live in Spencer.
Frances, Mrs. Ralph Jensen, lives in Windom, MN. Ralph and Frances have one daughter and two sons.
Leonard and his wife, Gladys Hattendorf, live north of Ocheyedan. Most of his work has been in construction, building mainly churches and commercial buildings, some of which are in Ocheyedan. He also served in the armed forces during World War II.
Wyman is married to Lois Behling from Beemer, Nebraska. Albert Glade kept farming the 106 acres until Wyman got married, when they moved to Worthington, MN. Wyman and Lois moved into the farm house, and in 1956, Wyman bought the 106 acres. They have five children: Russel, Sandra, Carolyn, Dvorak, Lynette Tracy and Terry. In 1984, the farm was declared a Century Farm. Wyman retired and moved to Ocheyedan. His son, Russel, lives on the farm with his wife Lorenda, and son, Eddie. They are the fifth generation on the same land. Wyman is deceased.
Elaine and her husband, Frank Stewart, live in Casper, WY. They have twins, a boy and a girl, and another son.
Marilyn, the youngest, lives with her husband, Ernest Schauland, in Red Wing, MN. They have two daughters and three sons.1
