Woodrow Pace officiated. Burial followed in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Pall bearers were Bob Augustin, Rich Neureuther, Gary Wittman, John Neureuther, Scott Wittman and Josh Poeppel. Donald George Rowley was born on Jan. 18, 1926. in Park Falls, to George and Gladys (nee Herdrich) Rowley. As a young child, he moved with his family to a farm south of Loyal. He was raised and educated in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served four years. He returned to Loyal after being discharged and worked for Wuethrich’s Dairy and sold milking machines. He married Geraldine M. Haas on April 27, 1950, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and spent the next 16 years in service. Upon completing his service in the Air Force, he and his wife moved back to Loyal. He worked at various jobs, including the Loyal Cannery, Art Craft in Spencer, and was a bartender at Hills Brothers Bowl, Loyal. He resided in Loyal until the time of his death. He was a member of the Loyal American Legion Post #175, and the 40 and 8 group, the Loyal Snow Angels snowmobile club, and was past scoutmaster for many years with the Loyal Boy Scouts. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling and snowmobiling. Survivors include his wife, Gerry, Loyal; five children, Sandra (Bob) Augustin, Marshfield, Judy (Rich) Neureuther, New Berlin, James (Sharla) Rowley, Marshfield, Donna (Gary) Wittman, Marshfield, Pam Walker, Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Daryl (Dee) Rowley, Loyal; and one sister, Ilene (Bud) Schlinsog, Kenosha. Preceding him in death were his parents. Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, Assisted the family with arrangements.¹

She was the second eldest of five children and spent her early years in this area where her father was a respected farmer County Auditor and Banker. She attended rural school in Horton Township Osceola County. In 1901 the local Lutheran Parochial school was visited by a seminary student fulfilling his school mission teaching requirements. This slender Texan Frederick Hendrick Rudi was attending Concordia Seminary in St. Louis Missouri and their meeting started a long distance romance. After his graduation in 1903 he returned to Ocheyedan where on August 20 1903 they were married. The Reverend Rudi had accepted a pastoral call in 1902 to Clifton Texas located between San Antonio and Houston in an rural area settled by German immigrants in the late 1890's. In 1903 Emma left the green fields and frigid winters of Iowa for brown dusty cow country of south Texas which was to be her home until 1912. Their marriage produced eleven children all who grew to adulthood. Their pastoral calling was spent in three different congregations in three states. Their life together raising a family spanned the turbulent ten's a devastating world war the ebullient twenties the trials of the depression a second world conflagration and the after war recovery and technological advances. Five children were born at their first pastorate in Clifton. In 1912 they responded to a pastoral call to rural Tilsit at Jackson Missouri. Reverend Rudi served there until 1920 when they moved their family north to Glidden Iowa. Reverend Rudi served the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) until his retirement in 1943. Their Children were: Walter (1904) a high school scholar and athlete who died of pneumonia as a senior in high school. Carl (1906) Graduated in Electrical Engineering from Ames College (now ISU) prominent in athletics and Cardinal Key. He married Helen Heperly also an Ames College Graduate. Gertrude (1908) A creative person married Frank P Clawson. Elvira (1910) Trained as a nurse. Married Orville Prill died in childbirth at twenty two. Anita (1912) Music teacher/organist married buttermaker Gordon Junker. Martha (1915) Born with grand mal epilepsy passed away at twenty eight. Edgar (1916) Served with the 34th Division front line medical group for four years in North Africa and Italy. A University of Iowa graduate became an Audio-visual specialist at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Married Nadine Beckner. Frederick (1919) served five years with Patton and the Ninth Armored Division at Bastogne Bridge at Remagen and the race into Germany. Awarded the Croix de Guerre from Luxembourg in 1946. Rural Mail Carrier in Glidden Iowa. Married Arlene Elliott. Harold (1922) Served four years with the U.S. Navy Armed Guard as a signalman aboard merchant ships taking supplies across the north Atlantic to England and Murmansk Russia. After graduation from the University of Arizona was personnel director for Hughes Tool and Die Tucson. Married Kathleen Sporleder. Louella (1924) National Honor Society attended Iowa State College. Married Lowell B Fisher ISC and West Point graduate career military officer bomber pilot and missile commander. Norman (1928) Served in Army of Occupation Japan in paratroops. Graduated from the University of Oklahoma Architect. Married Ann Andrews. Frederick and Emma's lives were not without trial and tragedy apprehension and fear. But they were also filled with love expectancy hope accomplishment and thanks for their many blessings. Reverend Rudi was not only father to his flock but father to the entire congregation who needed and received considerable attention through the many difficult times. Consequently a great majority of the rearing feeding and caring fell squarely on Emma's shoulders. The family was raised with out the contemporary conveniences of electricity running water indoor plumbing and modern food storage. They maintained an enormous garden and the entire summer was preparation for surviving the winters. She canned vegetables fruits pickles sauerkraut odd cuts of beef received from parishioners and tomatoes. They maintained a chicken yard for eggs and fast food when Pastor Hermann of Lidderdale dropped by unexpectedly with his family of thirteen.¹

His legacy is his beautiful wife of 56 years, Catherine; children, Jeff, Cora, Alan, Lisa and Erik; and 12 grandchildren, Ethan, Andrew, Stephen, Kevin, Caitlyn, Morgan, Emily, Brittany, Sally, Zachary, Justin and Emma. He will be cremated and will be buried in Tucson, with a memorial service planned for November. Donations can be made to RTA Hospice, 107 E. Frontier St., Payson, AZ 85541. Arrangements by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.⁵

She was confirmed on December 25, 1921, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olton, Texas. Ida taught at country schools in Horton and Ocheyedan townships. She was united in marriage to Bernhard (Ben) Hartwig of Ocheyedan, Iowa, on January 28, 1930, in Ocheyedan. They farmed in Horton township until 1968, when they retired and moved to Ocheyedan. Ben passed away on December 22, 1985. Ida was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Horton township, Ocheyedan, Iowa, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society and active within the church. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework. She passed away on Thursday, February 6, 1997, at the Sibley Care Center of Sibley, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, seven months and five days. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Richard Bremer of Ocheyedan, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Diana Hartwig of Orange, California; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emma Bremer of Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, and her parents.¹

Obituary for Charles Rueter A funeral service for Charles Rueter, age 82, of Lake Park, will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:30am at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 16 after 4:00pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Charles Henry Rueter, son of Henry and Ora (Bremer) Rueter was born on a farm northeast of Ocheyedan, Iowa on January 16, 1932. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township. Charles grew up in the Harris rural area going to grade school at Lone Star Country School and Zion Parochial School. After graduating from Harris High School in 1950, he helped his dad on the farm until going into the US Army in 1953. He served two years as a military policeman in Korea. Charles received the Korean Service Metal, the National Defense Service Metal and the United Nations Service Metal. After his discharge in 1955, he returned home to the farm. Charles married Ardyce Mae Anderson of Lakefield, Minnesota on April 27, 1957. They farmed and made their home in the rural Harris area, until semi-retiring in 1993 and moving to Lake Park, Iowa. Charles was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park. He also served on the board of the Ocheyedan Co-op Elevator, Osceola County Cattleman Association and was Fairview Township Clerk for many years. He was a member of Harris and Lake Park America Legion and served on the city park board in Lake Park. Charles enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating, golfing, playing pool with friends and spending time with family especially his children, grandkids and great-grandkids. Charles and Ardyce enjoyed many years of square dancing and wintering in Mesa, Arizona. He also loved the farm and working with his son. Charles died January 14, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center after a very short stay of two days. He had been diagnosed with AML Leukemia. He is survived by his wife, Ardyce; two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Lemmons of Las Vegas, Nevada and Lori (Terry) Sheeler of Lake Park; one son, Scott (Tricia) Rueter of Lake Park; five grandchildren, Brandon (Cassy), Brittany (Ken), Greg (Sabrina), Jacie and Jaden; five great-grandkids, Jared, Will, Avery, Blake and Leo; one brother, Loyd (Sharon) of Worthington, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ora Rueter⁶

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 11, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Horton township, for Emma O. Bremer, 99, who died September 7 at Country View Manor in Sibley. The Rev. Russell Anderson officiated. Interment was in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery with Andringa Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Emma Bremer was born January 20, 1904, at Ocheyedan, the daughter of William and Anna (Opfer) Rueter. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith. At the age of four she moved with her family to Olton, Texas, where she attended rural schools. In 1922 she returned to the Ocheyedan area, where she worked at various places. On February 18, 1926, she was united in marriage to Harry Bremer of Ocheyedan. They farmed in Horton township until December, 1967, when they moved to a home in Ocheyedan. After Harry's death in 1987, she continued to live in Ocheyedan until moving to Country View Manor in Sibley in October of 1997. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Lorna and her husband, John Lenderts of Ellsworth, Minn.; eight grandchildren: Thomas and his wife, Lois Bremer of Ocheyedan, Tim Bremer and David Bremer, both of Chandler, Ariz., Joel and his wife, Ruby Bremer of Unionville, Mo., Duane Dake of Ocheyedan, Nancy and her husband, Ron Dykstra of Sibley, Karen and her husband, Bruce Juber of Worthington, Minn., and Denise and her husband, Ken Bruckner of Menno, S. Dak.; 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; a son, Ronald in 1986; a daughter, Delores in 1972; a son-in-law, Ray Dake in 1985; an infant daughter; six brothers and five sisters. O⁸

[from the NewsTimes.com, Danbury, CT; Thursday, August 04, 2005] Theodore George Ruopp, 91, of Hawleyville, passed away July 30, 2005, in Chicago, Ill., where he was residing with his daughter Kathleen Ruopp. He was born in 1914 to J. George Ruopp and Anna (Schulze) Ruopp. Ted was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and held positions on many of the church boards and was active in the Lutheran Laymen's League. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Danbury High School. Following high school, he joined Sipperly Artesian Well Company as a well driller. He was a member Battery D of the 192nd Field Artillery of the National Guard and after the attack on Pearl Harbor, joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater as Aviation Chief Machinist Mate. After the war, he remained in the Navy and participated in the atomic bomb tests at the Bikini Atolls while on the USS Shangri La. This had a dramatic impression on him and he enrolled in Purdue University where he studied physics and botany and later became a Connecticut Civil Defense Radiological Officer. Ted later returned to Danbury and took over the operation of Sipperly Artesian Well Company with his brother Ernie. He continued to run the company with the participation of several of his brothers, nephews and son Jerry well into his seventies. He also served as an officer in the Connecticut Well Drillers Association. Ted was an avid history buff, loved working outdoors in his garden and yard and thrived on lively discussions. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Ruopp of Chicago, Ill.; son, James Ruopp and his wife Helga of Hawleyville; son, Jerry Ruopp and his wife Jean of New Fairfield; daughter, Fibian Judith Ruopp of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers: Paul and his wife Augusta and Frederick and his wife Anita, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ted is predeceased by his wife Lydia (Behrens) Ruopp and brothers and sisters: Martin Ruopp, Dorothea Grube, Christa Lang, Ernest Ruopp, Helen Ruopp, Lillian Bardo, Edward Ruopp and Walter Ruopp. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St. in Danbury, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road in Danbury. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the George & Anna Ruopp Memorial Scholarship for Immanuel Lutheran School, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, CT 06811.
