| Obituary | 23 Jan 1930 | Obituary: The obituary for Edward was recorded on 23 Jan 1930. [From Osceola County Tribune, Sibley IA - 23 Jan 1930] Edward Seegers died at the sanitarium at Cherokee Sunday evening, January 12. He was born March 4, 1890, at Cedar Lake, IN, where he grew to manhood and there he united with the Evangelical church. He was obliged to quit farming about a year ago on account of a lingering illness. He took treatments at Iowa City for a year and also at the sanitarium at Cherokee. Saturday evening he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. In 1911 he came west stopping at Spokane, Wash., where he enlisted in the United States mariene corps in the spring of the same year. While with the marines he served three years in the Hawaiian Islands. In 1914 he joined the fourth regiment on an expedition cruise, stopping at various points. While with the fourth regiment he played in the United States Marine Corps band. After four years of service he received an honorable discharge. After his discharge he came to Horton township, where he has since resided. In May 1918, he was drafted to serve in the World war. He was as sergeant joined the Co. 7, 163 Depot Brigade at Camp Dodge. In December of the same year he received an honorable discharge. July 15, 1915 he ws united in marriage to Dorothy Bremer. Three children were born to this union, namely: Carlyle, Calvin and Ruby, who with their mother survive. Besides his widow and children he leaves to mourn six brothers and sisters, Frank and Henry of Cedar Lake, Ind.; Mrs Henry Brewing, Chicago; Chris, Ocheyedan; August, Crete, Ill., and Harry at Dyer, Ind. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Horton Lutheran church with Rev E. J. A. Kallsen conducting the services. Interment was made in the church cemetery. 6 |
