Survived by loving husband of 21 years, Bruce; children, Paula (Bryan) Anderson, David (Linda) Valenta, Diane (Chuck) Banks and James (Patti) Valenta; along with grandchildren; sister, LeOra Wells; other family and friends including her close friends from church. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Service Friday 11:00 AM at Our Saviors Reformed Church, 8201 Zane Ave N., Brooklyn Park. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church and also Thursday 5-7 PM at: Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel 763-533-8643 5125 W. Broadway12

Berlin Journal, Thus. Aug. 11, 1955, p. 1, c. 8. Rites Monday For James Claus, Drowning Victim. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church here Monday morning for James Claus, 3, son of a former Berlin couple, who drowned at Otter Lake near Eagle River last Friday afternoon. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Claus, who lived in Berlin before moving to Milwaukee several months ago. Leonard Claus is the son of Mrs. Molly Claus, 228 Broadway, while Mrs. Claus is the former Marie Kirchoff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kirchoff, 139 W. Moore St. Vilas County authorities reported that the youngster wandered away from the cottage where his parents were vacationing with another Milwaukee couple, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stater, at about 3 p.m. Two airplanes joined ground parties in a search for the boy in the heavy timber country. His body was found in the water near a pier. Otter Lake is about three miles north of Eagle River. The Rev. Charles D.E. Monroe, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, officiated at the high Mass of the Angels for the boy. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. Surviving besides his parents are his paternal grandparents, Oscar Claus, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Molly Claus, Berlin; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kirchoff, Berlin, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral service for LeOra Wells, age 96, of Lake Park, will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Ocheyedan Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 6:00-8:00PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.

On January 29, 2020, LeOra went to meet her Lord and Savior at her daughter Sharon's home in Gretna, Nebraska.

LeOra Elsie Claus Wells, daughter of Henry and Martha (Dass) Claus was born June 18, 1923 on a farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church near Ocheyedan, Iowa by Pastor E.J. Kallsen. She attended Center and Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1941.

LeOra was united in marriage to Darrell Wells on February 20, 1944. They farmed together on a farm north of Ocheyedan for thirty eight years until retiring in Lake Park, Iowa in the fall of 1981. They spent over thirty winters in Mesa, Arizona.

LeOra served her Lord as an active member of Zion Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the LWML, (Lutheran Womens Missonary League) and also sang in the choir. After moving to Lake Park she became a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was a member of the Concordia Guild.

Richard William “Capt. Rick” Claus, 54 died peacefully, Jan. 15, 2003, at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville, in the arms of his wife, Joyce Claus. He was born Sept. 25, 1949, in Ripon, Wis., to Leonard H. and Marie J. (Kirchhoff) Claus.

Rick attended St. Martin’s Parochial School and graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin, Wis. After graduation, Rick was very proud to have the honor of serving his country for the next 24 years as an aviation specialist, following his father’s footsteps who served in the European Theater during World War II in 509 P.I.R. HQ. Co. Rick retired June 30, 1993, as an master chief petty officer.

Rick attended Skagit Valley College and obtained two associate of arts degrees in marine technology, achieving both his mechanical and riggers certification. He was a sport fisherman and also received his Coast Guard charter captain’s rating, allowing him to operate Captain Rick’s Charter Liberty Call Voyages in Coupeville and Oak Harbor.

Rick was an active community volunteer and enjoyed boating, fishing and swapping fish stories with his buddies. Most of all he loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Rick is survived his wife Joyce at the family home, Coupeville; by six children and their spouses: Erica and Rob Steiner; Rebecca and Ken Bell and Jennifer Claus; Michelle and Heath Anderson; Melissa and Scott Goldman and Michael and Sheila Tullar II, all of Oak Harbor. His mother Marie Claus of Franklin, Wis., and seven grandchildren also survive.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Coupeville Recreation Center from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. to honor the life of Richard W. Claus. Dress code will be Hawaiian.

Cremation was held and a military ceremony will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.2

Roger Dale Claus was born on November 4, 1930, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Martha (Dass) Claus. He lived his youth in rural Ocheyedan where he attended a country school. He attended Ocheyedan Community High School. Roger was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, Ocheyedan. He served in the U. S. Army where he attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged.
He was united in marriage to Marlys Meier of Fulda, Minnesota, on January 23, 1955, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fulda, Minnesota. They lived and farmed north of Ocheyedan. In 1992, they retired and moved to town.
He is a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, Ocheyedan, where he held various offices. He was presently a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ocheyedan. Roger was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a former board member of the Osceola County Extension Services.
Roger loved to be around his family and attend his grandchildren's functions, sports events, and camping together. He also enjoyed gardening.
Roger passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2006, in Janesville, Minnesota, while camping with his family.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Marlys Claus of Ocheyedan, IA; his children: Doug Claus of Ocheyedan, IA, JoAnn and Rich Crandall of Lakeville, MN, Dennis and Kelley Claus of Ocheyedan, IA; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Emily and Bruce Van Beek and their children: Torii Van Beek and Reagen Van Beek; Martha and Josh DeWeerd and their children: Karenna DeWeerd, Erica DeWeerd, and Michael DeWeerd; Grace Claus and fiancÈ Josh and child: Isabelle Claus; Guthrie Claus and fiancee Ann Van Westen and child: Hadley Dake; Evan Claus, Audrey Claus, Trent Claus, Danielle Claus, Megan Crandall; two sisters: LeOra and Darrell Wells of Lake Park, IA, Irene and Bruce Street of Brooklyn Park, MN.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Joycelyn; and his parents.
The two white roses in the casket spray represent Joycelyn and Roger.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ocheyedan, Iowa with Rev. Russell Anderson officiating. The organist was Karen Glade. Casket bearers were: Trent Claus, Guthrie Claus, Evan Claus, Josh DeWeerd, Josh Bisch and Bruce Van Beek. Interment at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, Ocheyedan, Iowa. Military honors by Wood-Miller American Legion Post # 326. Arrangements by Andringa Funeral Home, Larry R. Andringa, Director.
