Letter One: Dear Brother and Sister in Law, We are all well and we hope that you are too, dear Brother. You wrote that you might be able to send us a little money this winter, how about it, couldn't you do that, as I need a lot of money for new year and I do not know from where to get it as everything is so expensive. Can you imagine the cow alone cost four hundred Mark now and I would like to keep it because I have enough fodder ... if only I can, dear Brother, for I have bought it on ... and will probably do it again when I can.
