Worrell Edward Bremer, 90, of Worthington died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, with Pastor Jeannette McCormick officiating. Casket bearers will be Ross Wendling, Kyle Wendling, Melissa (Anderson) Reed, Matt Reed, Jeff Anderson and Dwight Bremer. Burial will be in Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Round Lake American Legion Post 461. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Benson Funeral Home. Worrell was born March 13, 1927, in Horton Township, Osceola County, Ocheyedan, Iowa, the son of William and Anna Mae (Yeske) Bremer. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School in Horton Township through eighth grade. After that he attended high school in Ocheyedan. In 1943, he moved to Alaska and worked on the Alcan Highway for a year and a half. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 as a Seabee, working as a welder and was honorably discharged. Following his years in the military, he moved back to Ocheyedan and finished high school graduating in 1948. He then worked for Osterman Construction doing roadwork. In 1951, he moved to Denver, Colorado, working for Colorado Steel and Iron. He and Betty Griswold were married April 14, 1952, at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. In the following years he worked for Hattendorf Construction building churches, managed the Farmers Coop Lumberyard in Round Lake, Minnesota, and then worked for Payless Cashway Lumber/UBC in Worthington. He retired in 1991 and after a few months started working part time for Lampert Lumber in Worthington, fully retiring in 2008. After retirement, Worrell and Betty traveled throughout the United States enjoying the East Coast and bus tours. Together they enjoyed woodworking/crafts, fishing, golf, gardening and their family. Worrell is survived by two daughters, Barb (Jim) Wendling of Darwin and Lori Anderson of Richfield; four grandchildren, Ross Wendling of Hutchinson, Kyle Wendling of Hutchinson, Melissa (Matt) Reed of Lakeville and Jeff Anderson of Wells; and great-grandchildren, Norah Wendling and Judson Wendling of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; brother and sister-in-law, Basil and Evelyn Bremer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Geneva and Everett Wyer; and nephew, Andrew Wyer.3 |

Bremer EVELYN RUTH BREMER, daughter of Alfred and Laura (Consoer) Hattendorf, was born September 11, 1921 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Ocheyedan High School. She attended college and taught rural school in Horton Township after which she moved to California until the war ended. She then returned to Iowa and worked at the defense plant in Burlington, Iowa. Evelyn married Basil Bremer on August 10, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. In 1955 the family moved into a home in Luverne, Minnesota where she and Basil raised three children; Dwight, Glenda and Gordon. Evelyn then went to work at Montgomery Wards, then at the Rock County Auditor's Office for 19 years and also sold real estate for a time. She volunteered at the Minnesota Veterans Home and the Rock County Community Library. Basil preceded her in death on October 31, 1994. Evelyn continued to reside in their home until she moved to Poplar Creek Estates in December, 2010. In October 2013, Evelyn became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne, where on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 she died peacefully at the age of 92 years, four months and 24 days. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, jewelry-making, music, architecture, fishing, family vacations, current affairs and "Thursday Afternoon Just For Fun Club." Mostly, she enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, a youth director, and sang in the choir. She was a member of Stephen Ministries, Altar Guild, Circle, and the St. John Little Lambs Board. Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her three children, Dwight and Gail Bremer of Hardwick, Minnesota, Glenda Bremer and Steve Haper of Luverne, and Gordon and Faye Bremer of Luverne; five granddaughters, Michele and Paul Martens, Lisa and Rick Johannson, Kelly and Nick Cleveringa, Whitney and Jesse Lafrenz, and Savanna Bremer; and five great-grandchildren, Mason, Collin, Faith, Jonah and Braxton; and a sister-in-law, Marge Range of Rapid City, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Laura (Consoer) Hattendorf; her husband Basil Bremer; granddaughter, Cindy Bremer; five siblings, LaVera, Gladys, Glen, Iva Rose, and Arletta; and nephew, Joel Hattendorf. Memorials are preferred to Little Lambs Preschool Program or the Rock County Community Library.2 |
