I am a retired Methodist minister living here in the little fishing village of Marshallberg, sixteen miles East of Morehead City. At one time, many years ago, we lived not very far from Mt. Airy at Hamptonville. I said that I was retired and I am, yet I am pastoring three small churches here in eastern Carteret County that would not have a pastor if I did not pastor them. One of my churches is on an island reached by a bridge, Cedar Island. We like it here on the coast very much. We came to North Carolina from Tennessee in 1933 and served nine years in the mountains under the Board of Missions. We served in Ashe, Mitchell and Yancey counties We had six children. Our oldest daughter, Betty, is dead and is burried in New York City. Four of our children live here in NC and our son Wallace lives in South Carolina. My wife, Thelma, is living and we were married 48 years November 29 (1971). ... (signed) Rev. H. H. Cash; Box 156; Marshallberg, NC 28553 (Note: 1/16/2005 - a search for Methodist churches in Marshallberg gives: Trinity United Methodist Church (252) 729-1935 1163 Marshallberg Rd Marshallberg, NC 28553)5 |
