Virginia Allred ALTON December 10, 2008 4:54 PM Virginia A. Allred, 63, lost her valiant battle with life on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 13, 1945, in Alton, the daughter of Ralph and Lydia Edna (Higgins) Broemse. Virginia married Thomas W. Allred Sr. Nov. 5, 1977, in Brighton and they shared 31 wonderful years of marriage. Virginia worked for R.L. Polk for more than 23 years and was a member of the First Unitarian Church in Alton. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and was a member of Twin Rivers Search & Rescue in the 1980s for nine years. She loved to travel all over the world and enjoyed scuba diving, rock climbing and rappelling and spelunking. She was an avid reader and loved working in her yard. She was also a music lover. Most of all she adored her six grandchildren and being with them. She is survived by two daughter's and their spouses, Tracey and Todd Sorgea of Wood River and Carla and Brant McCance of Alton; one son, Thomas Allred Jr. of Wood River; six grandchildren, Skylar, Sterlyng, Sawyer, Jenieca, William and Jeffrey; two sisters, Doris Lewis of Springfield, Mo., and Eva Garner of Alton; three nieces and nephews, Kip Lewis of Springfield, Mo., Teri Presley of Bolivar, Mo., Victoria and her spouse, Tom Finnicum, of Idaho. Her parents and several aunts and cousins preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. The last hour of the memorial will be set aside for eulogies and spoken memorials. Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to American Liver Foundation.
