He was born to Herman Theodore Knake and Theresa McGinn on September 8, 1871 in Old Allegheny City - north of the city of Pittsburgh across from the Allegheny River. He was married to Kathryn Marie Huber on October 9, 1901 in Pittsburgh. Charles was a graduate of Holy Ghost College and he spent his entire life in Pittsburgh as a public accountant. He worked with the Equitable Finance Co. and with the insurance division of the State Department of Labor and Industry. In the final five years of his life he worked with his son, Walter, in his real estate office in Dormont. Charles was an active member of the Holy Name Society of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon. He was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Sierra Club, the Mother of Sorrow Group, St. Paul's Retreat House, and the Fish Club. Charles was an original founding member of St. Bernard's Church. Charles died on September 15, 1946 and is buried with his wife Kathryn and his parents in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Lawrenceville, PA. - Section B, Lot 1 - McGinn grave site.2 |

| Obituary | (1891) | Obituary: The obituary for Herman was recorded on (1891). Herman Theodore Knake was born on August 12, 1839 in Chillicothe, Ohio. His parents were John Henry Knake and Wilhelmina Bernardina Wamelink. Herman moved to Pittsburgh, PA. and became a music dealer of pianos and organs. He had a store at 12 Sixth St. Pittsburgh. He also was an organist at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh from about 1880 until his death in 1890. He was also pianist for the Pittsburgh Quintette Club, a well known music group in the city. His flourishing music store, Barr, Knake & Buettler was the successor to Wamelink & Barr when his uncle, John Theodore Wamelink, left Pittsburgh to become organist for St. John's Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio. Herman and John T. Wamelink both were involved in composing music pre, during, and following the Civil War. They wrote and published many pieces of music honoring the returning Union soldiers. Herman also wrote and published music in 1881 for the Funeral March of President James A. Garfield. Herman travelled to Cleveland, Ohio on occasions where his extended family - the Wamelink's lived. In addition, Herman's step-mother, Mary Hirt Knake, and half-sister, Maryanne, also lived in Cleveland. Herman's father had died in Chillicothe in 1854 and his mother, Wilhelmina, died in 1841 just two years following Herman's birth. John Henry had re-married Mary Hirt a few years following the death of Wilhelmina. Mary came to Cleveland in the1860's and died in 1913. She is buried in St. John's Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, alongside her daughter Maryanne. Herman died on May 17, 1890 in Pittsburgh of Addison's Disease. Herman married Theresa McGinn on October 27, 1870. They had eight children. Both Herman and Theresa as well as five of their children are buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Pa. in Section B, Lot 1 in the grave site of Theresa's parents Bernard and Anne Jane (Murphy) McGinn. Herman and Theresa had eight children ( Otto, Henry - latter named Charles, Agnes, Maria, Theresia, Genevieve, Marion, and Mary). | Obituary | (1856) | Obituary: The obituary for Johann was recorded on (1856). Johann Heinrich (John Henry) Knake was born on September 23, 1801 in Hohnhorst, Schaumburg, Germany. He was married to Engel Maria Engelking at St. Martin Church of Hohnhorst on January 14, 1830. She died in 1833. John Henry emigrated to the United States leaving Rotterdam, Netherlands and arriving in New York City on September 21, 1835 on the ship, Neva. With him on the ship were the Wamelink family from Aalten, Gelderland, Netherlands. John Henry had learned the trade of carpentry and, specifically, the art of making pianos. He and the Wamelink family, who were also musically inclined travelled to Chillicothe, Ohio. John Henry married Wilhelmina Bernardina Wamelink on June 5, 1839 in Chillicothe. They had two children, Herman and Henry. Wilhelmina died within the year of her youngest son's birth on August 11, 1841. She is buried in Chillicothe. John Henry married Mary Hirt sometime between 1841 and 1845. Mary and John had three children, Mary Anne, John Henry, and Joseph. John died on August 25, 1855 within five months following the death of his youngest son, Joseph. John Henry is buried somewhere in Chillicothe. The cemetery was moved and there is no record where the grave site presently exists as is true for his second wife, Wilhelmina. Mary Hirt Knake and her son and daughter moved to Cleveland, Ohio where the Wamelink family resided. Mary died on October 18, 1913 in Cleveland, Oh and is buried at St. John's RC Cemetery with her daughter, Mary Anne, who died on May 23, 1935.3 |

His hobbies were landscaping and gardening. He raised nine children with his wife, Elizabeth Theresa (Petgen) Knake, whom he married on June 25, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA. He died following a massive stroke on September 23, 1989 and is buried at the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum.2 |
