Ligon COLUMBUS, KANSAS: Bonnie Juanita Ligon, age 97, passed away at 4:50 pm, Monday December 8. 2014 at Medicalodge of Columbus following an illness. Bonnie was born July 22, 1917 in Cherokee County, KS. Her parents were Herbert and Fanny (Heistand) Paradee. She had lived here all of her life. She acquired a teaching certificate at Kansas State Teachers College, Pittsburg, KS in the early 1930’s. She then taught in county schools as a young woman. She later became employed at Elder’s Garment Factory in Carl Junction, MO, a job she held for 28 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church, Columbus, KS. She also attended Calvary Baptist Church, Columbus, KS. She had been active as a 4-H volunteer. She was also a member of the Hospitality Club where she loved to dance. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, and sewing. She was married to Marion C Ligon on Aug 12, 1939. He passed away April 14, 1976. She was also preceded in death by one son, Willian Ligon, son-in-law, Jim Grizzle, her parents, 3 brothers, Chester, Robert and Daniel Paradee, and 5 sisters, Pansy Fry, Alice Capron, Olive Emerson, Fern Westfall and Ann Paradee. Surviving is one son, M. Dale Ligon (wife, Sandra) Iola, KS; one daughter, Barbara Grizzle, Columbus, KS; Daughter-in-law, Linda Ligon, Springfield, MO; 8 grandchildren, Jeff Ligon (wife Clarissa), Steve Ligon (Lynette Robbins), Vaughn Grizzle, James Grizzle (Karyn), Doug Ligon, Mike Ligon (Shelly) Kristi Griggs, and Edee Ligon; 16 great grandchildren, Cathy Ligon (Terrance), Dr. J. Adam Ligon, Danielle Ligon (and Dan Colbert), Stephen Ligon, Matt Bolling, Ryan Ligon, Liam Ligon, Brodrick Grizzle, Hannah Grizzle, Grace Grizzle, Mallory Howard, Victoria Ligon, William Ligon, Thyme Griggs, Veronica Webb, and Katryna Webb; 8 step-great grandchildren, Zack Parker, Sarah Parker, Emma Parker, Zoey Parker, Josh Nwanguzo and Ricky Nwanguzo; and one great-great granddaughter, Natalie Ligon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS. Rev. Neal Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Elm Cemetery. rural Columbus, KS.
