He also graduated from General Electric's Apprenticeship School as a machinist-toolmaker. Over the years he worked for Tokheim, Essex Wire, United Technology, and General Electric. He also worked for many years as a truck driver. In 1984 he moved to San Diego, Calif., where he worked for Naval Aviation Depot and at NAS North in the production department. He retired in 1999 to Tyler, Tex. He is survived by two brothers, Thomas Porter of Duluth, Ga., and James Porter of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilee. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Lindale, Tex. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.²
