Obituary | 21 November 2012 | Obituary: The obituary for James was recorded on 21 November 2012. [from the Sioux City Journal, 21 Nov 2012] McCOOK LAKE, S.D. | James “Jim” Richard Lynott, 81, of McCook Lake went to be with the good Lord Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, with his wife, Bev, and son, Jeff, at his side after a brave seven-month battle against cancer. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with family friend, and neighbor, Sharon Harrington officiating (casual attire is welcome). Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Jim was born on July 24, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Pete and Marie (Mortensen) Lynott. He entered the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years of age, and was a veteran of the Korean conflict after giving 14 years of service to his country. Jim was honorably discharged in March 1961. Jim met his soul-mate Bev Tucker on Aug. 19, 1976, and the two were married on Aug. 19, 1988, at Morningside Assembly of God Church. He worked in Sioux City with the Local Labors Union for many years, as well as Big Soo Terminal. Following his retirement, Jim worked in security at the Sioux City Sue, Belle of Sioux City, and the Argosy Casino. Jim enjoyed being at home with his wife, Bev, and son, Jeff. You could always find him on the deck watching the military and history channels, Jim loved that room in his home. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, metal detecting, and traveling. Jim always had the desire to pan for gold. Jim was a kind, caring, calm gentleman and he will be greatly missed. Left broken hearted is the love of his life, Bev; son, Jeff; sister, Catherine (Lynott) Maxwell, all of Siouxland; and a brother Paul Lynott (Cherri) of Waukesha, Wis. Additional extended family that survives Jim includes Leslie and Mary (aka Sal to Uncle Jim) Lynott, Lechelle Lynott-Shilz, Sarah and Kristen Fortman, Wes (Jess) Kincaid, Jim and Dale Anderson of International Falls, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Barb Wojciechowski (Bill) of Badger, Minn., and Janet Fortman of Roseau, Minn.; special nephew, Pete (Terry) Maxwell of Rapid City, S.D.; special niece, Jodi Wojciechowski (who kept Uncle Jim well supplied with funny T-shirts and green note pads); Kevin Wojciechowski; and many other nephews and nieces, cousins, and many dear friends. We cannot forget his two Shih Tzus, Maggie Lyn and Lexie Louise, oh how Jim loved "his girls". Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bob Kincaid; nephew, Steve Maxwell; niece, Mary Ellen Maxwell; and niece, Dyan Wojciechowski. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice of Siouxland, who with their help made this journey less painful, and to the dynamic duo, Kristen and Kristy.4 |

Obituary | 18 January 2006 | Obituary: The obituary for Virgil was recorded in Springfield, Greene, Missouri, United StatesB, on 18 January 2006. Rev. Virgil Baldwin On January 16, 2006, the Reverend Virgil Baldwin entered the loving and longed for embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is survived by five children: Judy Hybertson, Dawn Whittington, Francine Baldwin, Preston Baldwin, and Joy Kiley; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by Daisy, his lovely wife of 65 years; a granddaughter; and a great- granddaughter. Virgil walked through life as a servant-soldier of the living God and was known as an adventurous and godly man who walked to the beat of a different drummer; a man we knew as a husband, dad, grandpa, pastor, and friend. Born in Sioux City, Iowa, July 1, 1914, Virgil married Daisy Wilder in September 1937 in Elk Point, S.D. They moved to California where they started their life and a family before returning to Missouri in 1945. Virgil began his Christian walk in 1947 and fulfilled many roles in the church as Greeter, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, and Superintendent. He was President of the Gideon's, active in the Prison Ministries outreach, volunteered at Springfield Hospital downtown and started the local chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International in the 1960's. While engaged in lay ministry organizations, he passed out thousands of testaments and Bibles, and led many people to a personal relationship with the Lord. He also worked as a general contractor in Springfield and Willard. At the tender age of 67, he attended Central Bible College and received his ministerial ordination from the Assemblies of God. In his 70's and 80's, Virgil built and pastored National Avenue Assembly of God Church for 15 years. He continued to volunteer as a Chaplin at St. John's Hospital and manned the National Prayer Line while building and servicing 18 Christian book racks for the community. What drove "Dad" was not material wealth or recognition, but sharing Jesus Christ with others. He will be missed, but the joy of knowing we will see him again far outweighs our sadness, because we know he has gone to be with the Lord, and to his reward for contributing a lifetime of dedication to Christ and the family of God. Viewing is 3 to 7 p.m. tonight at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral service will be Thurs., Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. in Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 1301 W. Atlantic, with graveside services to follow in White Chapel Cemetery, near the airport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Assemblies of God Headquarters for the purchase of bibles.3 |
